ADELE STANDS TALL AT GOLDEN GLOBES - SKYFALL wins for Best Original Song!

She made it. British singer Adele won the Golden Globe award for "Skyfall", the song she performed and wrote (with Paul Epworth) for the 23rd James Bond film of the same name, beating up the songs for "For You" (from ACT OF VALOR), "Not Running Anymore" (from STAND UP GUYS and written by Jon Bon Jovi), "Safe and Sound" (from THE HUNGER GAMES) and "Suddenly" from LES MISERABLES.

This is the first Golden Globe won by the Bond franchise after Madonna's main title song for DIE ANOTHER DAY lost in the 2002 awards. It is also the first win for a very moved Adele, who sent her thanks to Sam Mendes, Daniel Craig "for being such a wonderful Bond" and to her coming son.

SKYFALL BluRay/DVD - Release Date, Cover Artwork & Special Features revealed

EON Productions has confirmed via their Twitter account (@007) the release date and cover artwork of the BluRay and DVD editions of the highly acclaimed 2012 James Bond film, SKYFALL.

FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION (EYES) ONLY - Skyfall stakes on Oscar

After a wave of increasing acclaims and breaking box office records to the point of surpassing GOLDFINGER (the second most succesful Bond film after THUNDERBALL, inflation adjusted), the 50th anniversary Bond film, SKYFALL is now making his way to the Academy Awards. EON and Sony released the classic "For Your Consideration" posters anouncing their sumbition for each Oscar category. 

The James Bond films have had some nomination troughout its half-century on the silver screen. The last one was in the 1981 Oscars when Sheena Easton's song for FOR YOUR EYES ONLY was nominated and was even sung by the singer in the ceremony with a musical scketch that included Bond alumni like the immortal Richard Kiel (Jaws) and Harold Sakata (Oddjob). Still, it lost to ARTHUR's theme. 

If SKYFALL is nominated and is lucky enough to win, it'll be the first time since 1965 when John Stears won the Best Visual Effects Oscar award  THUNDERBALL.

The Award Nomination Ceremony will be held on January 10th, 2013 and the event will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on February 24th.

This is the first James Bond nomination for the Globes in ten years, after Madonna's "Die Another Day", form the homonimus film that closed the Pierce Brosnan era, lost to U2's "The Hands That Built America" from GANGS OF NEW YORK.

The ceremony will be held on January 13th, 2013. If "Skyfall" wins, it will be the first Golden Globe awarded Bond song after the main title songs for FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE (Matt Monro), THE SPY WHO LOVED ME (Carly Simon), FOR YOUR EYES ONLY (Sheena Easton), A VIEW TO A KILL (Duran Duran), TOMORROW NEVER DIES (Sheryl Crow) and DIE ANOTHER DAY (Madonna) lost in their respective categories.

SKYFALL - HIGHEST GROSSING BOND FILM IN UK HISTORY!

SKYFALL has now taken a staggering £94,277,612 at the UK box office in just 40 days on release, making box office history and overtaking the record previously held by Avatar which had a lifetime gross of £94,025, 632 million during 11 months on release in UK cinemas.

SKYFALL, the 23rd James Bond adventure, continuing the longest running and most successful franchise in film history, opened in 587 cinemas across the UK and Ireland on Friday 26th October, and is still on general release.

In response to this fantastic news, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said “We’re overwhelmed with gratitude to the cinema-going audiences in the UK who have made SKYFALL the highest grossing film of all time. We are very proud of this film and thank everybody, especially Daniel Craig and Sam Mendes, who have contributed to its success.”

SKYFALL BLU-RAY/DVD - Official artwork (how original!) and Release Date

Blu-Ray.com has listed the SKYFALL Blu-Ray with the official (temporary, we hope) cover artwork, featuring exactly the same design than the US One Sheet poster. The European releases design feature their respective cover artwork, which shows Bond in front of a gunbarrel logo showing the London skyline.

The official Bond video artwork usually contains the same image of Bond than in the theatrical posters, albeit with a different background setting. So far, it appears the same poster artwork will remain untouched for the DVD and Blu-Ray release, set for March 12, 2013 according to the site. Price is yet unknown.

The Special Features and other specs are yet to be revealed.

PURVIS & WADE OUT OF BONDAGE

After writing two Bond films that ended with the Pierce Brosnan era (THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, DIE ANOTHER DAY) and the three adventures that started Daniel Craig's era (CASINO ROYALE, QUANTUM OF SOLACE, SKYFALL), scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade confirmed they're leaving the Bond series, while John Logan has signed up as a sole writer for the 24th and 25th Bond films, set to be released in 2014 and (probably) 2016.

The writers, actually taking part in the Docca Tribal Film Festibal in Qatar, said: “We’re very happy to have done five Bond movies, I think we’ve gotten it to a good place. I know that John Logan and Sam Mendes have come up with a plot for another one, which takes the pressure off because these films take up a lot of time.”

They've also said that they've considered leaving the series with QUANTUM OF SOLACE, but they've felt tempted to retire in a better way with SKYFALL, one of the most (if not the most) emotionally deep screenplays in the whole Bond series.

In the Bond series, Purvis and Wade worked with writers like GOLDENEYE's Bruce Feirstein and Oscar winners Paul Haggis and John Logan.

THE BEST BOND SINCE GOLDENEYE (well, not quite) – The GoldenEye Dossier reviews SKYFALL

ALERT: there are some spoilers here, technical and some things about the plot, but you won’t find extreme spoilers here, so you’ll be able to read without guilt.

The day has finally arrived, and this time –unlike what I did with CASINO ROYALE and QUANTUM OF SOLACE- I made the effort of stay spoiler free (something hardly possible thanks to social networks and forums). I’ve read some comments (some very painful to read) about the film when they were only a rumor, but didn’t dare to confirm it with my worldwide friends in Europe who had seen the film.

As I told in my radio interview with Sebastián De Caro, I tought friendship this time was avobe Bond itself, at least for this year, so I’ve kindly rejected the Argentinean premiere tickets I won without much effort in their official Facebook page contest.

Suddenly, November 1^st came, and SKYFALL was there round the corner. As I met my friends and I was heading to the cinemas I wondered: is it gonna be the best Bond since GOLDENEYE? The trailers sold the film very well, plus the cast list including names like Bardem, Fiennes and Finney seemed to confirm it.

I have to start here with a certain spoilerish critique (calm down, it’s not that heavy): the gunbarrel is not at the beginning, but at the end (yet again!). That pisses me off. Its misplacement was justified in CASINO ROYALE, then we had some tongue-in-cheek reason to believe it’d fit at the end in QUANTUM OF SOLACE and yes, it certainly can fit the end of SKYFALL in a sense, but it should have been at the beginning, particularily for a 50^th anniversary Bond film which combines both classic and modern touches both modern and conservative fans will like.

As we get into the ten minute teaser we see a spectacular motorbike rooftop chase over the rooftops of that exotic place were FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE and THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH was filmed: Istanbul, Turkey. Bond and rookie agent Eve are chasing Patrice, a shadowy hitman responsible leaving agent Ronson heavily wounded and stealing a drive containing a list with all the secret agents embedded in terrorist organizations worldwide. The fight between Bond and Patrice ends atop a train where Bond gets a “bloody shot” from lousy marksman Eve.  Then the beautiful main titles by Daniel Kleinman come to screen, cleaning up the forgettable disaster made by the MK12 in the previous film. Skulls, tombstones, girls, moors and Bond stalked by shadows are some of the beautiful things we see to fit with the lovely “Skyfall” song performed by Adele.

Then we are introduced into the film’s proper plot: MI6 is blown away right after M’s computer and all the secret service network is hacked by an unknown man that has apparently made with the missing list and is constantly posting macabre jokes and games to M. Her authority is constantly challenged by her superior Gareth Mallory, brilliantly played by Ralph Fiennes.

Then, Bond is back from the dead to save M’s reputation and the enormous security breach in the country. And here’s where we traditionalist fans will get to rise a smile by watching the return of Q, this time a nerdy young guy played by Ben Whishaw (we can remember his scene with Daniel Craig in 2005’s LAYER CAKE) who will never make us forget the late Desmond Llewelyn but he brings freshness to the character. We get to see some gadgets. The classic Aston Martin DB5 from GOLDFINGER is there – all I will say is that it’s the same of GOLDFINGER, and not just for the BMT 216A number plate, plus a signature Walther PPK akin to Timothy Dalton’s photo camera-rifle from LICENCE TO KILL, and a radio. The radio is very useful, I can assure you!

Javier Bardem’s Silva is probably the greatest villain since Robert Davi’s Franz Sánchez, because he’s a first class psychopath: he’s driven by revenge against M because he feels “betrayed” by her – there are some shades of our dear Alec Trevelyan in its first encounter with Bond, plus a slight homosexual characteristic that will remind you to Wint and Kidd from DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER (the novel, not the film). Bérénice Marlohe (or “Bérenice Lim” as she’s finally credited in the main and end titles) as Sévérine provides a lot of beauty to the screen and, in her short time onscreen, we discover shades of her unhappy past.

Naomie Harris looks very beautiful too but it’s not the Bond girl you expect to be, although she has a surprise for Bond (and the audience) in the very last minutes of the two hour and a half feature – and here’s another interesting thing to talk about: ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE and CASINO ROYALE, the longest Bonds before SKYFALL, are very good but there are slow paced scenes, unlike SKYFALL, where all the scenes in a way or another are enough to fulfill the audience’s entertainment – the film just flies!

We shall give a special mention to Judi Dench’s M, who gives probably her best acting to the Bond franchise. You will really see here she’s not just another M, but has a maternal instinct towards Bond. And Albert Finney’s portrayal of Kincade, ghillie of Bond’s Scottish residence, brings us to the mind the actual place where Ian Fleming’s James Bond was born.

Daniel Craig makes a great Bond, and we have to mention here that he has been faced off against the original Ian Fleming’s James Bond, which is not a minor challenge. And he does it perfectly, adding some nice one liner humour touches we’ve been missing in the last two films. Nobody can say he’s not James Bond now, and, if you’re a nostalgic missing the Connery era… just wait for the film’s ending.

Much of the film merits belong to Roger Deakins’ cinematography, who probably is the best photographer Bond has ever had (sorry, Phil!), the so missed Stuart Baird editing and Alexander Witt’s second unit direction, after the fiasco of Matt Chassé & Robert Pearson and Jason Bourne’s Dan Bradley who should be banned for life to do another Bond film, unlike scribes Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan who created a great story and script together. Thomas Newman’s music might not be in the scale of David Arnold or John Barry, but he’s a great composer to be a substitute. Thankfully, we got more of the “James Bond Theme” this time. And of course, Martin Campbell was right: Sam Mendes did a wonderful job.

Is it the best Bond since GOLDENEYE? It certainly beats off THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, DIE ANOTHER DAY (I say this being a Pierce Brosnan fundamentalist as somebody called me) and QUANTUM OF SOLACE. By facing it off against TOMORROW NEVER DIES we’re facing it of a film I love much and well, CASINO ROYALE is Ian Fleming’s Bond genesis.

So, it is the best Bond since GOLDENEYE? Yes and no.

Last Saturday, October 27th, Argentinean radio hosts Sebastián de Caro and Diego Fernández put in practice the "lost art of interrogation" in their Metro 9.51 FM programme "Cómo Robar el Mundo" (How to steal the world) with our editor Nicolás Suszczyk, who talked about GOLDENEYE, SKYFALL and everything concerning the world's most famous secret agent celebrating it's golden anniversary this year. SKYFALL ROYAL PREMIERE ROUND-UP

The SKYFALL Royal Premiere was held last Monday on the Royal Albert Hall, and for the first time, Bond fans from around the world had the chance to watch it live on streaming video via YouTube.

And of course, Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles, who were greeted by stars Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris, Bérenice Marlohe and Ben Whishaw, among others.

THE BEST AND MOST EMOTIVE BOND DOCUMENTARY IN DECADES

Written and directed by Stevan Riley, EVERYTHING OR NOTHING: THE UNTOLD STORY OF 007 is a moving documentary that reflects upon the golden anniversary of James Bond, from Ian Fleming’s pen to Daniel Craig’s performance in the upcoming film SKYFALL.

The 110 minutes feature enlightens many dark and unknown aspects in the Bond history, including footage of the late producer Albert R “Cubby” Broccoli asking journalist not to disturb Sean Connery on the set of YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE in Japan, plus the constant legal battles led by producer Kevin McClory to Ian Fleming and the official Bond series, plus many funny anecdotes told by George Lazenby and Roger Moore, and an interesting coverage of the so called “Battle of Bonds” from 1983 concerning OCTOPUSSY and NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN (Sean Connery even dared to call “Cubby” Broccoli a “James Bond villain in a talk show!).

 GOLDENEYE fans pay attention: Pierce Brosnan is one of the interviewed stars and he explains how he left the series after 2002’s DIE ANOTHER DAY. “It was a hard phone to make and a hard phone to get”, says the actor reflecting at the producers’ phone call back in 2004. But we’re lucky enough to see that, besides making some ‘f*** you’ comments then, he has now no hard feelings towards the 007 franchise. Also featured in the documentary is former US President Bill Clinton, who praised the Irish actor’s portrayal as James Bond.

Famke Janssen, Timothy Dalton, Christopher Lee, David Picker (former United Artists President), Robert Davi, Lucy Fleming (Ian’s niece), Jacqueline and Steven Saltzman are between the featured interviews, plus, of course, producers Barbara Broccoli & Michael Wilson, and Daniel Craig and SKYFALL director Sam Mendes. We even get some unseen footage of the 23^rd Bond film through the end. 

EVERYTHING OR NOTHING’s result: the best Bond documentary in decades. Even when it features little about the Bond sound, we can learn many things we didn’t know about the creative and personal process behind making James Bond a 50 year lasting culture icon.

SKYFALL SOUNDTRACK - Cover Art & Track Listing

After Adele's groundbreaking reveal of the SKYFALL title song, Amazon has revealed the cover art and track listing for Thomas Newman's score for the 23rd James Bond film.

The CD cover artwork features the teaser poster artwork, and we're expected to have about 70 minutes of music. In a similar situation than David Arnold's score for 2006's CASINO ROYALE, Newman's album will not contain Adele's title song.

IT'S A FACT - ADELE WILL PERFORM 'SKYFALL'

It was probably the worst kept secret in 50 years of Bond. Even the single cover artwork and some portion of the lyrics were leaked! But finally, Adele has posted the music sheet for the SKYFALL song she has written and performed. After CASINO ROYALE's "You Know My Name" by Chris Cornell and the strongly disliked QUANTUM OF SOLACE's "Another Way to Die" sung by Jack White and Alicia Keys, the main title song for the 22nd 007 film will be called after the film's title.

ANOTHER NEW SKYFALL POSTER FOR THE UK MARKET RELEASED

After last week's release of the US One Sheet SKYFALL poster featuring the artwork seen in cardboard standees around the world, EON prodcutions has revealed the artwork of which is likely the definitive theatrical poster for the golden anniversary James Bond film. Like the first teaser poster released in May, it features the gunbarrel logo on the background, but this time we can get a glimpse of the city of London through it. Daniel Craig is this time seen in tuxedo (with a done bow-tie unlike the poster design for CASINO ROYALE) and holding his Walther PPK.

What do we think? actually, it's nice to see a poster screaming BOND, but here it's done in a very tacky way, with crappy cut-and-paste montages. We find the "Bond shooting in the floor" poster a lot better.

007 LEGENDS: Mission Round-up

All the 007 missions were revealed in the last months with trailers for each movie plot adapted and updated to fit with the Daniel Craig era. MOONRAKER, ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, LICENCE TO KILL, DIE ANOTHER DAY, GOLDFINGER and possibly SKYFALL are the six missions that PC, XBOX360, Wii U and PS3 users will be able to play.

No GOLDENEYE? well, I'm afraid we can't complain since we've had four games re-adapting the story!
007 LEGENDS will be released on October 16th worldwide.

SKYFALL: NEW (well, almost new) ONE SHEET POSTER RELEASED!

Remember the cardboard SKYFALL standees seen in many countries like the US, UK, Spain, France and Argentina? 

Well, some months later, a second teaser poster (Quad version, which is the landscape poster format used in Great Britain) was seen in the UK and throughout the web and, of course, some copies were available for sale through eBay.

Now, we have not only found a Hi-Res version of that quad poster, but a One-Sheet "domestic" version for the US market using the same artwork.

Even when the official Facebook (www.facebook.com/JamesBond007) & Twitter (www.twitter.com/007) Bond account released it formally yesterday, our affiliated site James Bond Brasil discovered it on the IMDb some hours before.

Unlike the British quad version, the one sheet American poster features the film's credits - including "editor Stuart Baird" and "director of photography Roger Deakins", abscent from the UK Character Banners who had the film credits but omitted these crew members for unknown reasons.

The SKYFALL Royal Premiere is scheduled for October 23 at the Royal Albert Hall, where the 40th Annoversary Bond film DIE ANOTHER DAY was also held. The film opens in the UK on October 26.
