GOLDENEYE 20 - Legacy

Taking over $352 million at the worldwide box office, GOLDENEYE was a sizable hit that pleased both the Bond fans and the press, mainly in the United States and Great Britain.

Pierce Brosnan had a wonderful recepcion as the fifth 007, with The Sun calling him "The best Bond since Sean Connery", while the late Roger Ebert praised the movie in both the Chicago Tribune and during his TV show with his friend Gene Siskel, who was far more skeptical about the film and the new 007.

In the rest of the world, the reception has been a bit more lukewarm: many countries in South America, mainly Brazil and Argentina, weren't very thrilled about the adaptation of Ian Fleming's character into the 1990s and criticized his "political correctness"; while Germany also complained a bit about this slight twist of Brosnan's Bond.

Nevertheless, twenty years later, GOLDENEYE proves to be one of the most beloved Bond films by the 007 aficionados of all generations. Some of them place it in the top five, others in their top ten. Still, they always show their gratitude to the movie that brought agent 007 back to life - with a vengeance!

In the last month of our GOLDENEYE year, we'll review trough our social media all the legacy this wonderful movie brought - to the press, to society, to the Bond fans and to the movies in general. Use the #goldeneye20 and #GELegacy to follow our photos and videos.

  1. About Brazil, maybe your people did not read the best Brazilian movie critic, Rubens Ewald Filho, who said about it: "extremamente movimentado, com atraente elenco feminino, o filme restaurou a credibilidade da série" (extremely movemented, with an attractive female cast, the movie restored the credibility of the film series). As to myself, a Brazilian Bond fan (saw all the movies), I consider Goldeneye to be the best Bond movie ever, until today (2015).
