GOLDENEYE 20 - The Women of GoldenEye

Behind every great man there is a great woman. When Pierce Brosnan took over the role of James Bond twenty years ago in GOLDENEYE, he had two very strong main girls... but were them precisely "behind him?".

The women of GOLDENEYE went one step ahead of the Bond girls from the past, challenging Bond in either a physical or an emotional way, representing the modern times of the 1990s.

Polish actress and singer Izabella Scorupco was only 25 when she played the part of Natalya Simonova, the helpless survivor and witness of a massacre at the Space Weapon Control Centre in Severnaya where she was working as a computer programmer.

Bond finds in Natalya a capable ally when trying to thwart the evil plan of Janus with her knowledge in systems. As much as defenseless she is, she can still have the courage to (temporarily) reject the charms of the secret agent and face him off with his inner feelings.

Scorupco has recently starred in Staffan Lindberg's film MICKE AND VERONICA, after credits in EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING, VERTICAL LIMIT (directed by Martin Campbell) and the TV series ALIAS.

Born in Amsterdam in 1965, model and actress Famke Janssen was cast as Xenia Onatopp in GOLDENEYE.

With roles in series like MELROSE PLACE, THE UNTOUCHABLES and STAR TREK, and the lead on the TV film MODEL BY DAY, Janssen was approached to join the long list of Bond vixens after being contracted by MGM/UA in the horror thriller LORD OF ILLUSIONS.

Described by the actress as a girl who can go "beyond her limits", Xenia is a deadly and sadistic woman assisting the Janus Crime Syndicate after her stint as a soviet fight pilot. She kills her victims in a unique way - crushing them to death with her legs during sex (thus providing the first actual sex scene in a Bond movie).

Janssen has made a prominent career after GOLDENEYE, with the films I SPY, DON'T SAY A WORD (opposite Sean Bean), HANSEL & GRETEL: WHITCH HUNTERS (opposite Bond girl Gemma Arterton), the X-MEN and TAKEN sagas and, most recently, Netflix's TV series HELMOCK GROVE.

Born in 1963, Serena Gordon played MI6's therapist Caroline, sent by M to evaluate Bond for active service during his trip to Monaco. The British actress was studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and before GOLDENEYE she had a prominent role in the ITV series THE BILL.

A smaller role in the film is Irina, Valentin Zukovsky's lover, played by the London-born actress and singer Minnie Driver. Her credits include SLEEPERS (1996), the animated film TARZAN (1999) and ELLA ENCHANTED (2004), starring Anne Hathaway. She had an Oscar nomination as Best Supporting Actress in 1997 for GOOD WILL HUNTING.

She released three albums: Everything I've Got in my Pocket (2004), Seastories (2007) and Ask Me to Dance in 2014.

Last but not least, in GOLDENEYE is briefly featured Kate Gayson during the casino scene. She is the daughter of Eunice Gayson who played Sylvia Trench in DR. NO, becoming the first onscreen Bond girl in 1962, opposite Sean Connery's 007.
